13/6/08 Games UP? constituency groundswell gets underway
Games development companies across the UK, from Dundee to Brighton, are to contact their local MP to convey their concerns about the long-term future of the industry.
More than 200 companies, which make up 75% of UK-based games development companies, have given their backing to the Games UP? Campaign.
Those companies supporting Games UP? have two key areas of concern - high costs and skills shortages. Without urgent attention to both, they fear that the UK games development industry’s position as a world leader is untenable.
The participating companies plan to press their local MPs into supporting the Campaign and ensuring that UK studios are given the best environment possible to flourish and develop.
This process will also play a crucial role in helping to educate Parliamentarians about the games development industry, convey its many benefits, and help dispel a number of the mistruths that surround it.
